RENTS in Akwa Ibom are comparatively lower than in the top 5-7 states of Nigeria, from Lagos to Kano. But since Akwa Ibom has reinvented itself, now as a destination of preference for Nigerians from other parts and as a safe destination for FDI, cost of Real estate lease and acquisition has known a marginal rise. In 2009, for example, a studio apartment (self-contained) at Nwaniba road could go for N80,000 even in the neighbourhood of the University campus. But now, 10 years later, self-contained of similar quality will go for at least N120,000 in the same area.
In this article, we give an approximate rent value for the range of sizes from mini-flats (self-contained) to 3 bedroom flats in selected parts of the state where you could have interest. The more the number of rooms, the higher the rent and vice versa for the fewer rooms. The better the quality of the apartments, the higher the rents as well. Benefits such as power supply, security and water supply also influence price. These rents are for average quality residential apartments only and not for commercial ones.
